Buyers finally move in after 30 year wait!
Rose & Len Loria are the latest proud homeowners of a Tommy Williams Net-Zero Energy Home. This marks the 4th Zero-Energy Home commissioned by the Southeast's FIRST production builder of Zero-Energy Homes.
What makes this home even more special is the fact that Rose & Len started this process over 30 years ago when they built one of the first "Passive Solar" homes in the country on Long Island, New York. So, for the Lorias, this is the culmination of a lifelong commitment to conservation.
At Tommy Wiliams Homes, we are truly proud to have these pioneers be among the first to live in our Zero-Energy Homes. Congratulations Rose & Len: If anyone deserves to never have a nother electric bill, it's you. Thanks & enjoy your home.

Best Darn Sales Team Ever!
You many have already had the pleasure of meeting one or more members of our outstanding sales team. If you haven't, allow me to introduce them. From left to right: Lynnette, Charlie & Tiffany.
They bring a diverse background and an incredible flair for creating an enjoyable home buying experience.
Lynnette is originally from Kentucky and has called Florida home for more than 3 decades. She loves all things "green" - making her a perfect fit for Tommy Williams Homes. She can make anyone feel comfortable in any situation, has an easy, infectious laugh and knows all facets of home buying: from lending to decorating. And, wow! - can she decorate! (she'll be glad to share her knowledge too!).
Charlie has been selling Tommy Williams homes for longer than anyone! She bought one herself many moons ago and liked it so much she decided to share her positive experience with others. So enthusiastic was Charlie that many folks she talked to decided they wanted to feel that way too (and this was before she started working for us!) It was an obvious match and Charlie still greets everyone with that same enthusiasm.
Tiffany is a consummate professional and a true SuperMom. She has a solution for every problem and a smile that seems to never fade. She knows real estate and understands first-hand the home buying process. And, as another Tommy Williams Homeowner, she also knows our product - inside and out. She will instantly make you feel at ease with her comfortable knowledge and welcoming style - and her chocolate chip cookies (baked fresh daily).
Our models our open 7 days a week. Stop by, grab a cookie or a cup of coffee and learn more about Tommy Williams Homes from the best "new-home sales team" around.
Tommy Williams Homes to be featured on HGTV's "House Hunters"
Gainesville, FL (July 15, 2011) – HGTV’s wildly popular House Hunter’s show is in Gainesville to film an upcoming episode. House Hunters takes viewers behind the scenes as individuals, couples and families learn what to look for and decide whether or not a home is meant for them. Focusing on the emotional experience of finding and purchasing a new home, each episode shows the process as buyers search for a home.
Homebuyers Bobby Hodginkson & Mariko McMillan are moving to Gainesville from Colorado and are looking for their dream home. HGTV will film their home search and follow their decision making process. Hodgkinson & McMillan have narrowed their search to 3 homes: 2 “resales” and a brand new "Green" home built by local builder Tommy Williams Homes in Longleaf Village in Southwest Gainesville.
Filming crews will follow the couple and their realtor around Gainesville this weekend – then return for more filming as they make their final decision. Episode air-dates are yet to be determined.

2011 International Builder's Show
Just got back from the 2011 International Builder's Show in Orlando. 3+ days of classes, thousands of square feet of exhibits and several homes built or brought in just for the show. The show is a great opportunity to see the latest in building techniques, innovative products and emerging styles in home design and decor.
Green ideas and innovations were everywhere. One of the more interesting products was a rain-harvesting "pillow". The idea was that rainwater from the roof is collected in huge "pillows". The water can then be pumped through an irrigation system to water your lawn.
Since Tommy Williams Homes is already on the cutting edge of energy efficiency, I found it particularly interesting to see a number of technologies being touted as cutting edge - when in fact we've been using them for years. And in some instances have long since moved beyond what was being billed as "cutting edge".
The most interesting design trend is the return of gray as the base color to decorate around. Gray is gradually replacing tan or beige as the popular color palette. Accent colors to go along with the gray: Red & Black. It's definitely a more modern look but the decorated homes that used these colors did a great job of "warming up" the rooms and they didn't look too "ultra-modern".
Oh, I almost forgot: Tommy Williams Homes was recognized at an awards banquet for builder who built "Maximum Efficiency Homes" (a home built with and energy usage score of zero). Only 5 builders in the entire country were reorganized. It's nice to live in a community like Gainesville that supports the zero energy movement.
Peace.
Solar Energy Tour This Sunday 10/3
Tommy Williams Homes, Gainesville's Green Builder and the 1st builder of production Zero Energy homes in the Southeast is proud to be part of the National Solar tour and the 5th Annual Gainesville solar tour. Our second Net Zero Energy Home, "The Jordan" will be part of the tour this Sunday, October 3rd. The tour will begin at Indigo Green Store in Downtown Gainesville (click for directions: Solar Tour Map)
The focus of the 2010 Gainesville Solar Tour will be the impact of solar energy and energy efficiency on residential utility bills. Visitors will meet for a catered mixer at Indigo Green Store where they can converse with local solar contractors and energy efficiency experts. The mixer will close with a presentation by a representative from Gainesville Regional Utilities on the status of current Gainesville solar and energy efficiency incentives. We will then continue on to visit between four to eight solar powered residences for guided tours where questions can be answered further.
“The 2010 Solar Tour gives Gainesville residents a glimpse at how an increasing number of local families, homes and Gainesville developments are going solar,” stated Alex Palomino University of Florida Chapter Director of Education. “The Gainesville Solar Tour is collaboration among ASES, solar contactractors and neighbors to put Gainesville about local solar energy projects and meet the men and women who make it possible.”

Big News!!!
Earth Day!
Celebrate with the whole family!
Make these charming tin can herb pots and watch them grow all summer long! This project not only recycles, it creates new life, and is a great Earth Day craft. Your child can watch her plants grow for months to come and be proud that she created the container that holds them.
What you'll need:
- Empty aluminum can
- Screwdriver and hammer
- Liquid gesso (recommended: Liquitex Basics Gesso)
- Acrylic craft paints in colors of your choice
- Acrylic sealer spray, matte finish
- Craft stick
- Thin cardboard
- Pinking shears
- Black permanent marker
- 5-10 small rocks, stones or pebbles
- 1.5 cups potting soil
- 4-inch potted herb plant
- White craft glue
- Water
- Flower stickers (optional)
How to make it:
- Completely wash and dry aluminum can. If necessary, sand off any rough edges from opening of can.
- Turn can upside down. Parent should use screwdriver or other pointed object to poke holes in the bottom of the can. Use a hammer to tap the end of the screwdriver to make the holes.
- Paint outside of can with one coat of gesso. Let dry completely.
- Paint can in the desired color, repeat coats if needed.
- Decorate however you like. Use a thin paint brush for long lines, dip the end of the paint brush into paint for polka dots.
- Decorate with stickers if desired.
- In a well-ventilated area, spray the outside of the completed can with acrylic sealer spray. Let dry.
- Place enough rocks or pebbles in the bottom of the can to form a single layer.
- Add enough potting soil to fill the can two-thirds full.
- Remove potted herb from its container and transplant into the can.
- Fill edges with remaining potting soil, gently pat down so that plant is firmly in the can but not compacted so much that it’s too tight.
- Place can on a plate (to catch any water drainage) and add some water to the newly planted herbs.
- Paint craft stick whatever color you like. Allow to dry.
- Cut a piece of thin cardboard into a small rectangle (about 1.5 x 3 inches) using pinking shears.
- Paint both side of the cardboard with gesso, let dry.
- Glue the rectangle to the top of the craft stick.
- Use a black permanent marker to write the herb name onto the rectangle.
- Insert your plant marker into the soil, being careful not to crush any roots along the way.
- Place your new garden in a sunny window and remember to water them!
Tips:
- A 4-inch potted plant will be enough to make 2-3 vegetable sized cans (15 oz) or one larger tomato sauce type can (28 oz).
- This is a great project to teach kids about growing plants, especially edible ones. Take this opportunity to visit your local library and check out a book on simple container gardening or gardening with kids.
- Keep the kids involved, be sure they take care of “their” plant. Have them water their plant and show them how to check to see if the soil is too dry or just right by gently touching the soil surface with their finger.
- Eat these herbs! Your kids will light up when they get to pinch off a basil leaf to add to your spaghetti sauce.
